Brass Poppy Project Nearing Completion.

posted 18 Sep 2016, 02:14 by Bill Bishop   [ updated 20 Sep 2016, 15:15 ]

One set of Brass Poppies  was installed at the R.C.A.F. National Museum in Trenton.  These will be on display at the front of Our Monument at the Museum during the summer months [Monument Dedication 2012]

This project was conceived and has been managed by Carl Mills.  It has been ongoing for over a year as an 85th Squadron Anniversary project to take pictures of every known grave of both 400 and 411 Squadron's Honour Roll members, and deceased CO's through Canada, and all of Europe.

The Canadian tour is complete, as well as many of the European photographs.  Many of our fallen comrades' graves have been touched by the Brass Poppies.

There has been a lot of information  and photos added to the ACTIVE PROJECTS BAY, Brass Poppy Section.

This unique and most amazing project deserves everyone's support.  You can begin by reading the fine Article written by Carl Mills L/Col (Retired).

Members Memoire Added

posted 2 Sep 2016, 02:18 by Bill Bishop   [ updated 1 Oct 2016, 02:42 ]

The prolific pen of the hard working Carl Mills has been very active ... I don't know where he gets the time but the result is we get to read some very humourous, non-historical accounts of his Squadron antics in his ongoing series "WRECKOLLECTIONS".

This series can be found by going to the 400 MEMBERS Bay and selecting the MEMBERS MEMOIRS Section.  Currently there are the On Guard Series, written by Fred Kuzyk, and the Wreckollections Series written by Carl.

Carl's latest addition is entitled PETATALES OF PETAWAWA, a look at experiences at Summer Camp in 1971.  It is well worth a read!

By the way we would be happy to post either written or recorded memoirs of any past 400, 411, or 2 ARW members.  Come on folks, have some fun yourself and entertain others with your own "wreckollations".

An Important Find

posted 30 Aug 2016, 00:13 by Bill Bishop   [ updated 30 Aug 2016, 00:39 ]

We were advised by Pierre Lagace of 403 Squadron that their site had 25 full copies of the Wings Abroad newsletter which was started by 110 (400) Squadron in late 1940 and published until early 1943.  Wings Abroad quickly expanded to include information on 401 and 402 Squadron's as well as 400.

These are truly important historical documents so we downloaded them and have posted them in a new Chapter of the 400 HISTORY Bay called Wings Abroad Newsletters.

This new Chapter contains a list of the 25 Wings Abroad Newsletters by Date of Issue with a VIEW link beside each.  This link take you to a new tab which displays the newsletter in an easy to read viewer.

I personally find them very interesting to read as it offers a excellent look into the Squadron's life during the early part of the war.  There are photos along with well written, often humourous articles.

I strongly urge you to take the time to read these over a period of time ... I think you will also enjoy them.  Click HERE to go directly to this new Section.

New Section - 400 Offspring

posted 20 Aug 2016, 00:40 by Bill Bishop   [ updated 29 Aug 2016, 23:26 ]

A new Section has been added to the 400 History Chapter ... 400 Squadron Offspring.
This details a little know part of 400 Squadron's History ... the role its personnel played in the formation of two other squadrons who made up No. 39 (R) Wing, R.C.A.F., in No 83 Group of Second Tactical Air Force.

It features the story of S/L Peters who left 400 Squadron to become CO of the newly formed 414 Squadron.  It also has links to the history of 414 Squadron and 430 Squadron

To visit this new Section you may CLICK HERE click on the 400 History on the left navigation pane.
